About us
The Guildford Centre for Psychotherapy is a professional association of psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapists founded in 1976 in the Southern Counties.
All GCP members are fully trained and qualified psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapists from well-known training organisations. They bring to their work as psychotherapists a rich variety of professional experience – for example, as psychodynamic counsellors, supervisors, consultants, trainers and seminar leaders, conference and study day organisers. Some also have professional backgrounds in medicine and social work.
Members of GCP are registered with either the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) or the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and subscribe to the GCP’s Code of Ethics.
If you are a qualified psychotherapist and would like to join us you can find application details here >>

Annual Lecture
Each Spring, we invite outside speakers to give a lecture. Usually about 70 local professionals attend.
Business and clinical meetings
Five times a year, on a Saturday afternoon, we meet for a clinical presentation & discussion by GCP members.
We then continue the meeting with whatever business issues need to be raised and decided on.
Informal Groups
From time to time, small numbers of members make informal arrangements for peer supervision, for discussing articles of clinical interest etc.
Reduced Fee Service
The GCP, dependent on available funds, is able to offer reduced fee therapy, up to 20 sessions, for people who cannot afford full fees.
GCP Website
This gives information about the GCP, and also access to members’ contact details, for prospective therapy.
There is also a members’ section.
Commitment by members
As we are a small group, we ask everyone to help out with the various tasks that arise:
– Occasionally present a clinical discussion paper for the bi-monthly meetings
– Help with teas for the Business Meetings and for the Annual Lecture.
– Help in the various arrangements for the Lecture, Chairing meetings or taking minutes.
From time to time, roles arise such as organising speakers for the lecture, keeping account of the finances, membership renewals. Everyone is asked to take a turn at such tasks.
Objectives
